Aftercare Guidance From Our Clinical Team
A Bright Smiles doctor or clinical team member reviews the most important instructions and what to expect after nightlase.
Purpose & Limits of Treatment
NightLase is a laser-based treatment intended to reduce snoring in selected patients by treating oral tissues. It should not be used as proof that obstructive sleep apnea has resolved. Diagnosed or suspected sleep apnea requires appropriate medical evaluation and follow-up.
Advance your diet according to comfort and the mechanical limits of the treatment—not simply because the area no longer hurts. For nightlase, a restoration, appliance, implant, surgical site, or healing tissue can still be vulnerable before it feels vulnerable.
After Each Session
Mild throat or mouth warmth, dryness, tenderness, or irritation may occur temporarily. Drink water and follow the comfort instructions given to you. Significant swelling, severe pain, blistering, bleeding, or trouble swallowing should be reported.
Your individual treatment can differ in extent, materials, medicines, and healing needs. Follow any specific instructions Bright Smiles gave you for nightlase, and contact us rather than guessing if your experience is substantially different from what is described here.
Food, Drink & Oral Hygiene
Eat and drink according to comfort unless your clinician gives a specific restriction. Avoid very hot, spicy, sharp, or irritating foods if tissues are sensitive. Continue normal brushing and oral hygiene.
Use only the cleaning method that fits your nightlase and its stage of healing. If an area cannot be cleaned without pain, bleeding, forcing a device, or disturbing healing tissue, stop and ask Bright Smiles to demonstrate the safest technique rather than improvising.
Track Symptoms Over the Treatment Series
Snoring varies naturally from night to night. Follow the prescribed series rather than judging the result from one session. A bed partner's observations can be useful, but symptom improvement does not replace objective sleep testing when sleep apnea is being evaluated.

Know the Signs of Sleep Apnea
Snoring accompanied by witnessed breathing pauses, gasping, excessive daytime sleepiness, morning headaches, or significant cardiovascular risk should prompt medical sleep evaluation.

Continue Prescribed Sleep Therapy
Do not stop a prescribed air-pressure machine, oral sleep appliance, or other sleep-apnea treatment because snoring improves. The clinician managing your sleep disorder should decide whether treatment can safely change.
Do not copy another patient's schedule or change the prescribed routine because nightlase feels comfortable. Wear, removal, adjustment, and progression instructions are individualized; call if the plan is unclear or the device cannot be used as directed.
Reassessment & Maintenance
Response and durability vary. Keep reassessment visits and tell us if snoring returns, daytime symptoms worsen, or new sleep-related concerns develop. Additional sessions or a different treatment pathway may be appropriate.
Keep the review schedule Bright Smiles gives you. Follow-up for nightlase is used to check healing or tissue health, function and bite, home-care access, and the condition of any restoration or appliance; the interval may change with your individual risk and findings.
Personal Instructions, Follow-Up & Changes in Your Plan
Keep every follow-up visit Bright Smiles recommended for nightlase. Healing, fit, symptoms, and treatment needs can change over time, and the next step should be based on an examination rather than the calendar alone. If your clinician gave you instructions that differ from this general page because of your procedure, medical history, medication, restoration, or appliance, follow those personalized directions and contact us if anything is unclear.

COMMON QUESTIONS
NightLase FAQs
Does less snoring mean sleep apnea has been cured?
No. Snoring volume and obstructive sleep apnea severity are not the same thing. If you have or may have sleep apnea, appropriate medical evaluation and objective testing remain important.
Should I stop my CPAP or oral appliance after NightLase?
No. Do not stop prescribed sleep-apnea therapy because snoring improves. Treatment changes should be coordinated with the clinician managing your sleep apnea.
What throat symptoms are expected after a session?
Temporary dryness, warmth, scratchiness, or mild discomfort can occur. Symptoms should be manageable; significant swelling, worsening pain, or difficulty swallowing should be reported.
What should I eat or drink after NightLase?
Choose comfortable foods and drinks and follow any temperature or texture restrictions your clinician gave you while the tissues are sensitive.
Why might I need more than one NightLase session?
The treatment is commonly delivered as a series, and response varies. Anatomy, tissue response, weight, sleep position, nasal issues, and other factors can affect snoring.
When should I seek a sleep-medicine evaluation instead of treating snoring alone?
Witnessed breathing pauses, gasping, excessive daytime sleepiness, morning headaches, cardiovascular risk, or other signs of obstructive sleep apnea warrant medical sleep evaluation.
