TREATMENT & AFTERCARE

All-on-4 / Full-Arch Surgery Aftercare Instructions

Do not touch or pull at the surgical areas, stitches, or the underside of the temporary bridge.

These instructions cover the essential home care, expected changes, warning signs, and follow-up for all-on-4 / full-arch surgery. Your Bright Smiles clinician's instructions for your specific treatment, medicines, appliance, and medical history take priority.

Your personal instructions come first. Follow the instructions your Bright Smiles dentist or clinical team gave you for your specific treatment, medications, appliance, restoration, and follow-up schedule. Those directions take priority over general guidance on this page.

Protect the treatmentProtect the implants, surgical sites, and temporary fixed teeth during early healing.
Eating & chewingFollow the prescribed soft-food/no-chew diet; temporary teeth can fracture or overload healing implants even when they feel secure.
MedicationTake prescribed or recommended medication only as directed and only when it is safe for you.
Keep it cleanFollow the hygiene instructions for this treatment; clean gently rather than aggressively.
Do not improviseDo not adjust, remove, stretch, advance, or modify treatment components unless your clinician instructed you to do so.
Know when to callCall for a loose or broken temporary, increasing swelling or pain, persistent bleeding, drainage, fever, altered bite, or any implant/prosthesis movement.

AFTERCARE VIDEO

Aftercare Guidance From Our Clinical Team

A Bright Smiles doctor or clinical team member reviews the most important instructions and what to expect after all-on-4 / full-arch surgery.

Protecting the Surgical Sites & Temporary Teeth

Do not touch or pull at the surgical areas, stitches, or the underside of the temporary bridge. The temporary teeth may feel solid, but the implants underneath are still healing into bone. Do not test the bridge by biting hard foods or deliberately clenching. If any part feels loose, rocks, cracks, or your bite suddenly changes, stop chewing on it and call Bright Smiles.

Avoid smoking, vaping, nicotine, and damaging oral habits whenever they can interfere with healing or increase mechanical risk. If you clench, grind, play contact sports, or have another activity that affects the treated area, follow the protection plan your clinician recommended.

Bleeding, Swelling & Bruising

Blood-tinged saliva and mild oozing are expected early after surgery. Swelling commonly increases for two to three days before improving, and bruising or jaw stiffness may occur. Follow your cold-pack and head-elevation instructions. Call for heavy bleeding that does not respond to directed pressure, swelling that keeps worsening after the expected early peak, fever, pus, a foul taste, or pain that improves and then becomes significantly worse.

The overall trend matters: expected early symptoms should remain manageable and then improve. Pain or swelling that becomes substantially worse after beginning to improve, new drainage or a foul taste, fever, or symptoms that interfere with normal swallowing or breathing need prompt evaluation.

Pain, Prescriptions & Sedation Safety

Use the pain-control plan given to you and only medicines that are safe with your health history. If antibiotics or a prescription rinse were prescribed, use them exactly as directed; do not use leftover antibiotics. If you received sedation, follow the separate driving, supervision, alcohol, and decision-making restrictions given for that medicine. Trouble breathing, facial or throat swelling, or another severe medication reaction requires emergency medical help.

The overall trend matters: expected early symptoms should remain manageable and then improve. Pain or swelling that becomes substantially worse after beginning to improve, new drainage or a foul taste, fever, or symptoms that interfere with normal swallowing or breathing need prompt evaluation.

Eating, Drinking & Protecting the Implants

Follow the exact no-chew or soft-food plan Bright Smiles gave you. A temporary full-arch bridge can transmit excessive force to healing implants even when chewing does not hurt. Choose foods that can be cut easily with a fork and avoid hard, crunchy, sticky, or chewy foods until your clinician advances your diet. Stay hydrated; avoid smoking, vaping, and nicotine because they can impair healing.

Advance your diet according to comfort and the mechanical limits of the treatment—not simply because the area no longer hurts. For all-on-4 / full-arch surgery, a restoration, appliance, implant, surgical site, or healing tissue can still be vulnerable before it feels vulnerable.

Cleaning Your Mouth & Bridge

Keep the mouth clean without traumatizing the surgical sites. Brush accessible tooth and bridge surfaces gently as directed and use any prescribed rinse. Do not force floss, a water flosser, interdental brushes, or other devices under a fresh surgical bridge until the team has shown you when and how to use them. As tissues heal, your cleaning method will change.

Use only the cleaning method that fits your all-on-4 / full-arch surgery and its stage of healing. If an area cannot be cleaned without pain, bleeding, forcing a device, or disturbing healing tissue, stop and ask Bright Smiles to demonstrate the safest technique rather than improvising.

Activity, Grinding & Accidental Force

Rest after surgery and avoid strenuous exercise or heavy lifting for the period your surgeon specified. Do not chew ice, pens, fingernails, or other hard objects. If you grind or clench, follow the team's instructions; do not place an old night guard over a new full-arch bridge unless it has been specifically checked.

Avoid smoking, vaping, nicotine, and damaging oral habits whenever they can interfere with healing or increase mechanical risk. If you clench, grind, play contact sports, or have another activity that affects the treated area, follow the protection plan your clinician recommended.

Healing, Follow-Up & Final Teeth

Early comfort is not the same as completed implant healing. Keep all postoperative and implant-monitoring visits so the team can check the tissues, bite, bridge, and implants. Your temporary bridge is designed for the healing phase and may require adjustments. Timing of the final restoration depends on implant stability, healing, your bite, and any grafting or other procedures performed.

Keep the review schedule Bright Smiles gives you. Follow-up for all-on-4 / full-arch surgery is used to check healing or tissue health, function and bite, home-care access, and the condition of any restoration or appliance; the interval may change with your individual risk and findings.

Personal Instructions, Follow-Up & Changes in Your Plan

Keep every follow-up visit Bright Smiles recommended for all-on-4 / full-arch surgery. Healing, fit, symptoms, and treatment needs can change over time, and the next step should be based on an examination rather than the calendar alone. If your clinician gave you instructions that differ from this general page because of your procedure, medical history, medication, restoration, or appliance, follow those personalized directions and contact us if anything is unclear.

COMMON QUESTIONS

All-on-4 / Full-Arch Surgery FAQs

How long do I need to stay on a soft or no-chew diet?

Follow the diet period your surgeon prescribed. Even when the temporary teeth feel solid, the implants and surrounding bone are still healing, so comfort alone is not a reason to resume hard chewing.

How do I clean under my temporary full-arch teeth?

Use the method and tools Bright Smiles demonstrated for your stage of healing. Early cleaning may differ from long-term cleaning because surgical tissues must be protected while plaque and food are still controlled.

Is swelling normal after full-arch implant surgery?

Swelling and bruising can increase during the first few days and then should begin improving. Call if swelling rapidly expands, becomes worse after it had started improving, or is accompanied by fever, drainage, trouble swallowing, or trouble breathing.

What if my temporary bridge feels loose or my bite changes?

Stop chewing on the area and contact Bright Smiles. Do not tighten, glue, bend, or adjust the bridge yourself; movement or a changed bite can overload healing implants or components.

Can I smoke or vape while the implants heal?

Smoking, vaping, and nicotine can interfere with healing and increase implant complications. Avoid them during healing and discuss cessation support with your clinician if needed.

When do I receive my final teeth?

Final-restoration timing depends on implant stability, bone and soft-tissue healing, your bite, and the treatment plan. Your clinician will determine readiness from examinations and, when appropriate, imaging rather than from a fixed calendar alone.
